В VIII–X вв. Европу захлестнула волна насилия. Мусульмане нападали с запада, викинги — с севера, венгры и славяне — с востока. Что представляли собой народы, лавиной ринувшиеся на Германию, Францию, англосаксонское королевство и почему им сопутствовала удача? Именно этим вопросам известный французский историк Л. Мюссе и посвящает свою книгу.
