Ко времени описываемых событий Мария уже возвратилась из Франции и вышла замуж по любви за приятеля Генриха, Чарльза Брэндона, герцога Суффолка. Впоследствии ее старшая дочь, Франциска, выйдет замуж за Генри Грея и родит девочку Джейн Грей, которую ждет трагическая судьба, описанная в третьей части этой книги.
